HOW DO PRIVATE LESSONS WORK?

My private lessons are tailored specifically to your needs, which means we can discuss your goals, any specific skills and issues you want to work on, and what techniques work best for you.

We may focus on things like:

  • Vocal health and clarity

  • Character development

  • How to understand and empathise with a script

  • Body language and responding naturally in performance

WHAT TO EXPECT

PRIVATE COACHINGS

& LESSONS

In your lessons, we will focus on real performance using a character that you're personally interested in.  You can either choose a script during your lessons, or come with a character already prepared.

During lessons, we'll perform exercises and I'll give yo feedback that helps you to improve your acting skills, ranging from stage and camera technique, to scene partner collaboration, to empathy exercises that allow you to create a unique character and a truly personal performance.

You can expect to truly act and grow your skills as a performer, rather than simply talking about it or listening to a lecture.

HOW TO PREPARE

PRIVATE COACHINGS & LESSONS

WHAT TO BRING

You are welcome to bring your own script, or I'm happy to make suggestions! Come ready to ask questions and try out new skills.

See below for suggested scripts, and how to read and understand that script so you have a character to act and work on for your lesson

BRING WITH YOU:

  • CLOTHING you can MOVE IN

  • NOTEBOOK to write down your thoughts and feedback

  • A COPY of your SCRIPT --  in a font large enough that you can easily read it!

How to Prepare a Script

Try to UNDERSTAND YOUR SCENE

  • What does your character want?

  • What's at stake if they succeed  - or don't?

Understanding and empathy are much more important than simply being memorised. Read the whole script, develop some opinions about what's going on.

   QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF

  •   Do you have a good sense of what your character is trying to do, or trying to make happen?

  •  Is there a pivotal moment for the character? What makes it so important?

  •   Do you know your character well enough to have opinions about the people / events in the scene? (you get this by reading the rest of the script)
